Day 3 – Ginger Spice and Faith

So, I just finished recording my video and was wondering what exactly to write on my blog about the theme I choose to vlog about, and as I was going to put some music on for inspiration, I saw this and I smiled. Got my answer.

Geri Halliwell and George Michael

Geri Halliwell and George Michael

I was born in the 80s and grown up in the 90s. I am generation Y, so I think a lot of the Ys out there will get what I am about to share.

If you actually know me, you already know this, but for those that don’t…, as most kids of my age, I grown up with the Spice Girls, and been highly influenced by them! Not just the music, but the philosophy, the attitude, the fun and the positivity!

Based on my psychological academic background, I had the opportunity to analize their impact in my life and I am so glad they were my role models back in the day. I look at the adult that I became and I can see some influences that were stamped on my teenager self and have been stuck through the years. And rather pleased about that.

As much as I loved the 5 Spice Girls as a whole, there was always one that completely stand out to me. Somehow I could identify with her and her personality: it was Geri Halliwell.

Perhaps, was the fact I was the “oldest sister” which I confess that made me a bit more bossy and outspoken, but I have always seen her as the motor and the brain behind the Spice Girls. After all who choose the name and came up with the unforgettable Girl Power slogan? Exactly.

Now, before starting to judge me or Miss Halliwell (now Mrs. Horner), there are a few very interesting things I have to tell you, in case you don’t know much about her and then you feel free to see if the influence was positive or not.

When she was only a child, Geri made a very important decision. She decided she would be extremely famous and powerful. While most kids want the same, while growing up they usually gave up and decide to they want to be hairdressers or teachers.

But not Geri Halliwell!

As a teenager, she actually became obsessed with the idea of becoming famous. So she tried everything. She wouldn’t give up. She listened a lot of NOs through the process but she confessed that for every NO she would listen, she would become stronger and her desire became bigger. NOs would empower her and give her extra strength.

Becoming a TV host and a glamour model were not enough for her.

So in 1994, Geri and another four girls got together, and the rest is history.

Geri Halliwell AKA Ginger Spice, became indeed one of the most if not the most famous and powerful woman in the 90s.

How?

Well, she wasn’t the most intellectual or intelligent person around. She was not necessarily a stunning woman. She was not even slightly talented, as she couldn’t really sing or dance (shocking). And she didn’t have super wealthy parents, in fact, she had very humble beginnings.

Never has a pop start achieved so much from so little. She has made herself one of the most recognizable women in the world through sheer force of will.

Ginger became that famous because she had FAITH. She believed in herself.

Geri had a dream, transformed it into a goal and became obsessed about it. She had a burning desire and didn’t let it go until she reached fame. She was so positive that she would make it that she would not stop.

As a lifelong Spice Girls fan, I feel like I am a PhD alumni when it comes to such topics as I grown up watching, reading and researching EVERYTHING about those ladies.

Funnily enough, I end up moving to London and somehow, got to know Geri on another level, on a more personal way. Plus lets not forget she has a couple of autobiographies where she explains in detail her journey to fame and success – I suggest “If Only”, an interesting read.

The “Cosmic List” was one of her secrets for success. She would write down what she really really wanted, and then imagine that would happen. Believe and even pretend in her head and heart that was already happening.

Does it sound strange? Not at all. It has been proven that is one of the best techniques to achieve what you want. I do that all the time myself.

Now what is funny, and reason I am writing this post (look at the ipod picture again), is that one of the items she had on her “cosmic list” was to merry George Michael. She confessed and even show the list in one of her documentaries. She didn’t end up marrying George – he is gay. But they became very good friends to the point he is her child’s godfather.

Can you see the power of Faith? Of Believing in yourself? Believing in your dreams? Is the law of auto-suggestion!

So growing up being inspired by Geri and the other girls success story, has definitely influenced my attitude and positivity towards my goals. I do believe in myself and I have faith in my dreams. I am actually living them now.

And to finish, I will transcript one of my fav poems. It was written more than 110 years ago, in 1905 by Walter W. Wintle and its called “Thinking”. It shows how any person may rise to altitudes of achievement which stagger the imagination, through the law of auto-suggestion.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do:

Thinking”

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you’d like to win, but you think you can’t,
It is almost a cinch that you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost;
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you’re outclassed, you are;
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win the prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can!

And this is my video for today =)

Enjoy it and have faith

Much love, oh and GIRL POWER ahahha
